Following its announcement back in March, a new trailer for the Atelier Ryza anime was released, and it revealed the show’s release date and opening song.
This upcoming show is the first anime adaptation in the long-running Atelier role-playing video game series by Koei Tecmo.
Atelier Series Gets First Anime Adaptation
While it may not be as well-known as the likes of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, Atelier by Koei Tecmo is a long-running JRPG series that began back in 1997 with Atelier Marie for the original PlayStation.
Instead of a story where a group of adventurers must save the world from an evil force, the Atelier series is unique for its more delightful take on the fantasy JRPG genre.
The games in the series focus on alchemy, and instead of fighting an evil villain, the adventures of the protagonists are usually lighthearted affairs with a lot of comedy.
Because of this, Atelier has gained quite a dedicated following, enough that the series has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
Aside from games, the series has also expanded to manga. In fact, there have been four Atelier games that got manga adaptations, including the latest mainline entry in the series, Atelier Ryza.

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout Anime Trailer, Release Date
The Atelier Ryza game was released in 2019 and has since gotten two sequels, with the third game being released just last March. It also received a manga adaptation in 2020.
Now, an anime adaptation is also in the works from Liden Films, the studio behind Tokyo Revengers and Call of the Night.
The anime was initially announced in March, and it just got a new trailer that revealed more details.

Similar to the Nier Automata anime which saw the return of the game’s voice cast, the voices of the Atelier Ryza characters in the game will also return in the anime. The story is also expected to faithfully adapt the game.
Also revealed is the opening song Golden Ray by Sangatsu no Phantasia, a musical unit that also worked on songs for Re:Creators, Kiznaiver, and more.
The Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout anime will premiere on July 1.
For now, there’s no word yet on where it will be streamed outside Japan.
