ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo Arrives Sad, Quiet in South Korea After Rushing Back From the U.S. For Moonbin’s Funeral

Cha Eun Woo rushed back to South Korea Thursday, April 20, cutting his U.S. trip short due to the sudden passing of his fellow ASTRO member Moonbin. The four corners of the K-pop world were shaken by the news of Moonbin's sudden demise Wednesday, April 19.

Cha Eun Woo was in Los Angeles to attend Coachella 2023 and other activities like the Dior Show. He was supposed to return to South Korea on April 24, but with Moonbin's unexpected passing, he quickly returned to be at his friend's funeral and family.

Cha Eun Woo Quickly Returns to South Korea

The 26-year-old arrived at Incheon International Airport and was noticed quickly walking ahead to his car.

He left South Korea on April 10 and was supposed to stay in the U.S. for 14 days.

It couldn't be denied that he looked sad and quiet while wearing a black hat, dark navy jacket, and black pants.

ASTRO Members Gather at Moonbin's Funeral

ASTRO members have reportedly gathered at Moonbin's funeral home.

The group's agency, Fantagio, confirmed Jinjin and Sanha quickly arrived at their co-member's wake after hearing the news of Moonbin's passing.

MJ later arrived after applying for an emergency leave from his military enlistment. In addition, former member Rocky also went to the wake.

Aside from the band, other figures in the industry have extended their condolence to Moonbin's family.

Many artists also delay their scheduled comebacks and other activities as a sign of respect during this mourning period.

The Mourning Period

The K-pop world enters an unspoken mourning period for the time being in light of the unfortunate demise of Moonbin.

With a calmer tone, Mnet's M! Countdown and KBS2's Music Bank proceeded as planned. The two networks sent condolence messages and asked their artists to wear black.

Artists set to make their comeback and debut, like iKon, Xdinary Heroes, Xikers, and The Win, postponed their activities and teaser releases for the next few days.

ITZY and YOUNITE also canceled their events and YouTube content releases. In addition, LE SSERAFIM delayed the recording for JTBC's Knowing Brothers.

IU also postponed her scheduled interview for her upcoming movie, Dream. Other affiliates are expected to show their condolences and delay their events and schedules.

Moonbin Found Dead

ASTRO's manager found Moonbin dead at his home in Gangnam. He was 25.

Gangnam Police investigated the case and claimed it was an apparent suicide.

The authorities also said they were discussing the possibility of having Moonbin's body undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
