Crisis on Infinite Earths will kick off with Supergirl just a few days from now. Being one of the most ambitious and highly-anticipated crossovers yet, one would think that the Arrowverse is actually planned out right from Arrow's premiere in 2012. Well, it's actually the complete opposite.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, producers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim talked about the shows and how they have come to making one of the biggest crossover event. In the topic of creating the Arrowverse, Berlanti revealed that it wasn't actually part of the plan and that "each step was a surprise."

When Arrow was released eight years ago, the producers were always asked about whether or not they would feature other heroes in the show as well. However, they would always answer a firm no. Looking back, Guggenheim admitted that none of the said interviews didn't "age particularly well."

Guggenheim went on to explain his thoughts to the very existence of the shared universe. He revealed that if he had to pick one word, he would say it's "unbelievable." The producer admits that the unexpected creation of the Arrowverse speaks to his "whole philosophy about building a universe."

"The best way to do that is to do one good show," he said. However, it's going to be "really hard." But Guggenheim claimed that if you succeed in doing so, then "do a second really good show."

Needless to say, the creation of the Arrowverse, planned or not, was received well by many fans. Especially for those who hold the shared universe really close to their hearts.

Crisis on Infinite Earths will start with Supergirl on Dec. 8, and continue with Batwoman (Dec. 9) and The Flash (Dec. 10). The whole event ends on Jan. 14 with Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
