Aquatrope of White Sand is the story of Kukuru Misakino, who works as the director of her grandparents' aquarium during the holidays; and Fuuka Miyazawa, who ends up working in the aquarium after failing as an idol.

Episode 2 sees Fuuka struggling with her new job in the aquarium as she's not used to this kind of work. Kukuru is cross with her, fearing that she will endanger the animals and that she's not really passionate about the job. It's revealed that, in fact, Kukuru is worried because the aquarium might close very soon due to a lack of money and old equipment.

Later, the two girls bond as Fuuka becomes increasingly protective of the aquarium. She finally tells Kukuru that she was fired after failing to live up to everyone's expectations and that since her dream to become an idol is now over, she wants to help Kukuru with her own dream instead.
