Aquatrope of White Sand begins with Fuuka Miyazawa, a young woman who apparently failed to rise as an idol. Instead of going home to her family and friends, and facing this failure, she goes to Okinawa. Her spontaneous decision might have already kicked off the beginning of a new dream.

In Okinawa, Fuuka visits the Gama Gama Aquarium, and a young employee, 18-year-old Kukuru Misakino, a high-school student with a passion for aquatic life. Fuuka is so charmed that, upon finding out how understaffed the aquarium is, she decides to stay and work there.
