Aquaman 2: James Wan Reveals True Reason for The Lost Kingdom Delay

In case you missed it, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will not hit theaters this December. It has been confirmed that the DC Extended Universe sequel will be pushed back to a later release date in 2023. But why is the film being delayed for several months? Director James Wan has given an interesting explanation as to why Aquaman 2 will not be released this year.

James Wan has always been open to his fans about his projects and that is especially true when it comes to Aquaman 2. The filmmaker regularly posts updates on the sequel on his social media accounts. The post itself confirms that Wan is working hard on the visual effects of the movie. In his Facebook page, the director responded to a comment stating that the movie couldn't be finished on time considering that production was only finished recently.

It's an understandable delay since Aquaman 2 will need several weeks or months in post-production to perfect the special effects. Although fans are disappointed that they won't be seeing the sequel in December this year, there is little doubt that it is going to be well worth the wait.

The premise of Aquaman 2 is still a huge mystery but the lost kingdom in the title might be connected to Necrus, the underwater Black City that has been featured in the comic books. There is a possibility that Arthur Curry will be on the search for the city which never appears in the same spot.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is directed by James Wan and will bring back Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman. The film is now scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.
