A New Female-Centric Arrow Spinoff Is In The Works

In the upcoming eighth season of Arrow, it was announced that this would be the last season for the show. Nearing Arrow's ending to be released this October, would we see more of the characters in the future?

Arrow star Katie Cassidy previously pitched something similar regarding a series. Although, it was for a Birds of Prey one, which ended up being a film franchise featuring the return of Harley Quinn. And with the announcement of a new female-centric show, it seems that it's looking good for Cassidy since her pitch would now actually be in the works.

Variety reports that the show would be a female-led team-up concept which stars Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake. The upcoming final season of Arrow is said to release an episode that will serve as a backdoor pilot for the series.

Mcnamara even posted a photo on Twitter together with Cassidy and Harkavy. She wrote, "Congratulations, ladies! Let's kick some ass!" along with the hashtag #TheFutureIsFemale. See photo below:

Berlanti Productions will be producing the episode in association with Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers that will be in charge of the project are Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama. With Guggenheim, Blankenship, and Balderrama as co-writers of the potential episode.

The show will follow the Canaries, a vigilante group. It will take place in Star City in the world of 2040. Since the reins of Team Arrow were passed to Mia, she will fight "an uprising" that was caused by the "denizens of the city section known as ‘The Glades'," together with Laurel and Dina.

In the meantime, CW is set to release an ambitious crossover series Crisis on Infinite Earths which will start with Supergirl on Dec. 8, and continue with Batwoman (Dec. 9) and The Flash (Dec. 10). The whole event ends on Jan. 14 with Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
