Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie recently opened up about the lack of creative freedom in the MCU.

Since the inception of the franchise, it's always been a well-known fact that Kevin Feige and the other executives at Marvel Studios are heavily involved in the making of films and TV shows.

While that system has been credited for the success of the franchise in its heyday, it is also being criticized as the filmmakers involved in their projects don't have full creative control.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Mackie opened up about the differences between working on his new series Twisted Metal and the MCU, which is a long-established franchise.

He explained that working for the MCU is "completely different" since it has a controlled environment and a lack of creative freedom.

"I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it's such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there's only so much you can do. There's only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content," Mackie said.

"Whereas with this [Twisted Metal], it was like, 'There's a guy and a girl… go!' So we were really able to build the world around it."

The actor added, "Exactly. And that's the hard thing about the Marvel universe. It's like, you can't really go outside of the lines of those comic books."

Mackie's comments will not come as a surprise to many fans since the MCU is always been notorious for having its own system of filmmaking and we've seen for many years that it has worked for the most part.

Despite the issues that he has, Mackie is still expected to be a major part of the MCU as we will see him again in Captain America: Brave New World and potentially in the upcoming Avengers movies.

Captain America: Brave New World is slated for release in theaters on February 14, 2025.
