Ant-Man 3 Writer Opens Up About the Rumored Change on the Ending

Scott Lang took a victory lap at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as he and Hope van Dyne managed to defeat Kang the Conqueror after knocking him out and pulling him into the oblivion of the power core. However, as the mid-credits scene suggested, that victory is just temporary for now.

Ever since the film was released, there have been rumors that the ending was changed prior to its release and the original plan was that Kang was able to get out of the Quantum Realm and go to Earth while Scott and Hope were stuck inside the world, which is a huge opposite of what they ended up with.

In an interview with Collider, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness was asked whether the rumors of the changes in the ending of the film were true. He responded by revealing that they considered different ideas on how they could end the movie.

"We had gamed out and you’re pitching out, you know, in your head as the writer, all the ways it can go. Certainly, you go through all these different scenarios. Yeah, I’ve seen the same. You know, there’s leaks and there’s rumors," he said.

"But I think, I don’t know, I’m an old-school comic book guy myself, and we’re kind of like sports radio fans, you know? Everyone just kind of throws stuff out and has ideas."

Loveness also revealed that one of the ideas that they considered was Scott being stuck in the Quantum Realm although they didn't go with that since it will be repetitive from what happened before.

"I see the merit of it. I certainly did and we gamed that out as well and we talked about it and all that, but at the end of the day, it is quite literally what happens at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp," he added.

"It’s him trapped in the Quantum Realm again, and I don’t think that would have been satisfying either. And also, it is exactly how he gets out in Endgame. I think the repetition is not solid there."

Based on the writer's comments, it sounds like there could be some merit to the rumors although it also looks like it was just an early idea that they didn't seriously consider in the end and they went with a more optimistic ending for the heroes' journey but will have ramifications to the future of the MCU down the road.
