Ant-Man 3 Was Initially Meant To Feature Only One Avenger

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness has always been concerned when it comes to the release of the Ant-Man franchise. Ant-Man 3 director Peyton Reed previously opened up on how the Scott Lang-led films were always brushed off as a “cleansing palate” to give way for the “real battle” in the Avengers franchise. As a part of this resolve, they made sure that the threequel wouldn’t be treated as such. In fact, they initially pitched that the threequel would only feature Scott Lang.

Recently speaking with Empire, Loveness revealed that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania would only feature Scott Lang “accidentally” being the only avenger in an Avengers movie: “The first discussion [the production team] had was, “What if Ant-Man is accidentally in an Avengers movie by himself?”

Interestingly, the director had something similar in mind. Reed had opened the discussion with Kevin Feige himself on making Ant-Man 3 with an Avengers-level and style film. Reed had reiterated, “I don’t want [Ant-Man 3] to be the palate cleanser anymore. I want [it] to be the big Avengers movie.”

There is no doubt that Loveness and Reed are right on track to reach their goal. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is not only serving as the opening and beginning of Marvel Phase Five, but will also introduce the next Thanos of the MCU and that is: Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). Seeing as Scott Lang and Hope’s family are about to face off with another big bad in town, it is clear that Ant-Man is going to need all the help he can get.

While Ant-Man 3 has yet to premiere, you can tell that the threequel is bound to be as huge and as amazing as the Avengers film. We will be soon discovering the reason behind Kang the Conqueror’s plans for the multiverse, and the film will also be introducing new heroes, one of them being The Good Place star William Jackson Harper as “Quaz” the telepath inside the Quantum Realm.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will premiere in theaters on February 17. You can check out more details about it here.
