Ant-Man 3 Bags the Worst Second Weekend Box Office in MCU History

Despite the mixed reviews and modest audience score, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania managed to meet expectations at its opening weekend box office and lead the charts. With the reception that it received, there are questions about how it will perform in its second weekend. Now, the results are in.

According to Deadline, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania lead the charts again on its second weekend as it nabbed first place with $32.2 million. However, it was also the second weekend worst drop in MCU history at -69% which is a bad sign in terms of its box office legs in the coming weeks.

Despite the disappointing results, the report claimed that insiders at Marvel are not actually worried about the numbers that the film received and they are confident that the audience will continue to return to the theaters in the future.

"Marvel takes something away from movie including Black Panther, including Avengers. I can say we’re incredibly proud of the film, Jonathan Majors does a fantastic job as Kang. It’s the movie we wanted to make. Box office is what it is. But it’s not going to stop people from going back to the theaters," the insider said.

While the film was able to lead the charts, it still had some tough competition to face with the new film Cocaine Bear which landed the second place spot with $23.09 million thanks to its viral marketing campaign leading up to its release.

Meanwhile, the new faith-based film Jesus Revolution nabbed the third place as it surpassed expectations with $15.5 million. Avatar: The Way of Water and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish continued to do well at the box office as they landed the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

There are a lot of attributes regarding why the recent MCU film received disappointing numbers at the second box office. Perhaps a lot of the audience already watched it in the opening weekend and decided not to rewatch it. As the report mentioned, the results here will not affect Marvel Studios for now, and let's wait and see whether that is indeed the case.
