Sense8 star ErƩndira Ibarra will be reuniting with Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski in the sequel The Matrix, which is set to begin production this year, Deadline reports.
Ibarra has become the latest newcomer who will be joining franchise returnees Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), and Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) as well as newcomers Toby Onwumere, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to take the role of young Morpheus. Henwick is rumored to play a female Neo-like character.
Ibarra played Daniela VelƔzquez in the first and second seasons of Netflix's science fiction series Sense8.
Wachowski will direct the film and co-write the screenplay with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.
Matrix 4 (as it's unofficially being called) is set to release in theaters on May 21, 2021, premiering on the same weekend as John Wick: Chapter 4, Reeves' other blockbuster franchise.
