Animated Scooby-Doo Reboot to Kickstart Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe?

The Scooby-Doo live action movies may have died out with Monsters Unleashed, but WB is looking to make a reboot with the animated genre this time around. What's interesting is, this film looks to launch a Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will have Mystery Inc. teaming up with other heroes from Hanna-Barbera to put a stop to the plans of Dick Dastardly. So far, the only HB hero we know that's coming is Captain Caveman, but I'm guessing there could be appearances from other characters like Secret Squirrel, Top Cat, Johnny Quest, or Penelope Pitstop.

Of course, the Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe is just a theory for now, but I'm totally convinced WB is definitely considering it depending on how this film performs.

Frank Welker is set to come back as the voice of Scooby-Doo (and possibly Fred), and he's going to be joined by the likes of Gina Rodriguez as Velma, Will Forte as Shaggy, and Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman.

The film will be directed by Tony Cervone who has worked on a lot of animation on TV with titles like Tom and Jerry, The Flinstones, and the Scooby-Doo cartoons. The movie also has the likes of Chris Columbus, Charles Roven, and Allison Abbate attached as producers.

With the movie set for a 2020 release, I'm sure we're going to get a first look sometime later this year. Hopefully the release a teaser before June, and a full trailer sometime later in the year. With Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse absolutely impressing audiences last year, it would make sense for WB get more experimental with their animation department.

Catch Scooby-Doo in theaters May 2020.
