Andy Serkis Reveals What Really Drives His Black Panther Villain's Agenda

The Black Panther footage we've seen in the trailer hasn't shown a lot of the villainous weapons dealer Ulysses Claue (played by Andy Serkis). His character has a "personal" vendetta against T'Challa, and Serkis recently talked to IGN about what drives his character's agenda in the Marvel film.

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Klaue lost his hand to a sinister robot, and according to Serkis, he is "furious about what's happened [in Black Panther]. So it is personal with T'Challa."

However, he's also against T'Challa's nation of Wakanda, a mysterious African country hiding its technological advancements from the rest of the world. Although outsiders think that Wakanda is a third-world country, the truth is that it's wealthy and more advanced than any Western country.

"He also wants to expose what he thinks is the hypocrisy of Wakanda," Serkis explained. "That's really what drives him."

"As well as his addiction to vibranium," the actor added, talking about the nearly indestructible metal from Wakanda.

Based on what we've seen in the trailer, it's clear that T'Challa will have multiple villains facing him in the film, but it looks like Klau will be the main one.

Black Panther will be released in theaters on February 16, 2018.
