Andy Serkis Open to Joining Matt Reeves' The Batman

Before he was attached to direct The Batman, Matt Reeves was best known for directing the last two Planet of the Apes movies. Andy Serkis played the lead chimp Caesar in both films, and he's expressed his interest in joining Reeves' solo Batman movie.

Talking to JoBlo, Serkis said about joining The Batman:

"Oh, for sure! I mean, I'd go to the edge of the created universe with Matt [Reeves]. I mean, he's the most brilliant director. I would work with anything with him again, y'know, I mean, I absolutely adore him and we're very good friends, close friends, and I think he's an extraordinary director so for sure."

For now, we still don't have any solid details on what Matt Reeves is bringing to his Batman movie, but we do know he has a story. With Deathstroke's appearance at the end-credits of Justice League, you'll think that he would be the main villain of the Batman solo film, but I would be happy to see a bunch of other characters take center stage.

I think a lot of people are expecting Serkis to play a mo-cap role for anything in the DCEU, but I would be impressed if they cast him as a human character. How about Dr. Hugo Strange? He already shares facial hair with another fantastic Serkis villain: Ulyssess Klaue.

With his experience in playing chimps, I'd also think they would cast Serkis to play Gorilla Grodd; but that guy's a Flash villain.

No release date has been set for The Batman, but people are expecting it to come out 2020.
