Andy Serkis Doesn’t Want To Play Gollum In Lord Of The Rings TV Series

Andy Serkis might have played a large part in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy by Peter Jackson, but the Gollum actor isn't all interested in returning to his role s everyone's favorite corrupted Hobbit in Amazon's new TV series adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's books.

Andy Serkis just recently spoke in an interview with Cinema Blend to promote his upcoming film, Mowgli. During the discussion, Serkis also opened up about the possibility of making his way to Amazon's Lord of the Rings TV series to play Smeagol. Though the fans loved the character Serkis played, the actor warns fans that they shouldn't expect him to play the character again, especially since the series is supposed to give a fresh new take on the books.

"Oh boy, listen, I mean...I don't think so. And if I was anyone making those, they're obviously going to want to start fresh and create something brand new. And that's how it should be. That's what you do with great, classic pieces of work. Like [The Jungle Book]. It bears repetition, and it bears reinterpretation. And I think it needs a fresh pair of ears and eyes, and I'm sure that's the way they'll go."

Serkis does have a point. If Amazon were to have a fresh slate working on a brand new adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, they'd be better off with different faces. Sure seeing Serkis as Gollum would be nice, but the texture of the series wouldn't be as fresh if it had a new set of actors to work with. Besides, the network probably wouldn't be able to afford Serkis and the rest of The Lord of the Rings alum now that they've become so famous.

The Lord of the Rings series doesn't have a release date just yet but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
