Andrew Garfield Reveals Which Scene Made Him Agree to Appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home

As we all know now at this point, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire made their triumphant return in Spider-Man: No Way Home which fans celebrated as they are happy to see their iterations of Spider-Man appear again years after their respective last film. But of course, it took a lot of meetings and discussions between Marvel/Sony and the two actors before it officially happened. Now, Garfield has revealed which scene made him say yes to appear in the film.

In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield shared how he was approached by Marvel and Sony about returning to play Spider-Man in No Way Home. "I went to their offices, and they said, ‘Well, this is what we want to do. We think it can really work. We don’t have a script yet. We don’t want it to be like a stunt thing. We don’t want it to be like a kind of a cameo, like a quick in and out," he said. "We want it to be actually in service to Tom’s journey as Peter and in service to both of your different Peters and we really think there’s something really interesting to explore about when these three lone wolves who think they’re alone in the universe in their own singular experience of being Spider-Man come together."

Then, Garfield revealed which scene made him agree to reprise the role again. "The main image that they pitched me was catching Zendaya, catching MJ," he said. "That was the first page I saw and I was like, ‘There’s no way of not doing this,’ because that’s profound. That’s a profound moment like an older brother saving his little brother from his same fate across the universe. If that portal hadn’t been opened up, and my Peter Parker hadn’t been there at that moment, it’s arguable that he would have had the same fate."

He continued, "You suddenly get into this incredible cosmic, meant-to-be destined moment where I get to heal the worst trauma in my life while simultaneously saving my little brother from having to experience that same trauma. Suddenly you’re in very mythic territory, and it’s just profoundly beautiful."

The scene during the climax where Garfield's Spider-Man catches a falling MJ was one of the most-talked-about moments in the film as it became a redemption for him after what happened to Gwen Stacy during the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It was a full-circle moment for Garfield's Spider-Man that is several years in the making. It is understandable why that made him say yes to play the role again as it was the scene that made his mark in the film.
