Andrew Garfield Reacts to Spider-Man: No Way Home Early Leaks: "I’m Working So Hard Here to Stay Secret"

We now know that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire did make an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But prior to the release of the film, everyone was speculating that they are part of the film and the people involved in the film, including Garfield, kept on denying the rumor up until its release in theaters.

Now that the secret is out, Garfield was able to finally address his triumphant comeback in the film recently where he was enthusiastic about his return on the role and lauded his co-stars where he had nothing to say but positive things about his experience working with them.

In a recent interview with TheWrap, Garfield addressed the leaks about his involvement in the film prior to the release and his thoughts about lying to everyone who was asking him about the rumor in which he admitted that it was "rather stressful but also weirdly enjoyable." He also compared the entire experience to playing the "Werewolf" party game.

"It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun," he said. "There were moments where I was like, ‘God, I hate lying.’ I don’t like to lie and I’m not a good liar, but I kept framing it as a game. And I kept imagining myself purely as a fan of that character, which is not hard to do."

He continued with his analogy, "Like anyone who’s played the game Werewolf knows, if you are the werewolf your heart kind of sinks because you know you have a stressful couple of hours ahead of you. You’re gonna have to lie to your friends’ faces and try to convince them that you are not the bad guy in the game. But it was thrilling, actually."

He also expressed that he was concerned when alleged photos and videos of his involvement were starting to leak around social media. He said, "I worked so hard to keep it secret that I was in Atlanta shooting. All these leaks were happening, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, guys, what the hell is going on? I’m working so hard here to stay secret, and then here’s an image of me with Tobey!’ And they’re like, ‘No, no, we’re gonna keep it quiet.’ ‘OK, I’ll keep denying it.’"

In the end, Garfield said that it was fun playing guessing games with the public and he still enjoyed the entire experience. "I was happy to do it, but it was a lot of work on everyone’s part. It obviously gave people a big thrill in the theater, and what more do you want from a theater experience than a thrill?," he concluded. "It’s been a rare experience to play that mass game of Werewolf with every single Spider-Man fan in the world. That’s been incredibly fun."

As most people have said after the release of the film, Garfield did a great job of lying to everyone and denying his involvement as there were some people who were convinced that perhaps he might not actually be in the film. Now that the secret is out there, the actor must be very relieved that he can finally discuss his involvement and he no longer has to do any lying or denying to everyone.
