The good news is that Kim Cattrall is reprising her role as Samantha Jones in the second season of And Just Like That. Her absence from the first season was greatly missed, which is why she's doing this cameo.

The bad news is that she'll only be starring in one episode. Variety that she will be in on a phone call scene between her and Carrie.

In an interview with TVLine, show producer and lead actress, Sarah Jessica Parker, revealed that Cattrall's return is "a really nice acknowledgement of the 25 years."

The actress also shares that the cameo is "just this really nice, quick little phone call that just feels so normal, and just is a perfect portrait of the longevity of that friendship, and what it means and the ease in which it exists."

Deadline reported that Cattrall's cameo was filmed towards the latter part of production. The actress did not have any interaction with any of the cast. So no, there's no scene of all four women together.

There's no exact reason for Cattrall's change of heart. But according to reports, the actress was approached by HBO and Max content chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys, to reprise her role. Apparently, Cattrall said yes.

Either way, showrunner Michael Patrick King was thrilled that he "got to have Samantha and Carrie in a scene together."

King says he doesn't know what happened "some kind of fan magic, some kind of show business magic. I'm surprised by it as well… Something manifested from somewhere."

In the first season of the show, Cattrall's absence was explained by a falling out between her and Carrie after she was fired as the latter's publicist. Samantha also decided to move to London.

Although this explains why Samantha wasn't part of the first season, it isn't what happened with the actress in real life.

In an interview, Parker revealed that they did not ask her to join the show "because she made it clear that that wasn't something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn't occur to us."

The actress also shared:

"That's not 'slamming' her, it's just learning. You've got to listen to somebody, and if they're publicly talking about something and it doesn't suggest it's some place they want to be, or a person they want to play, or an environment in which they want to be, you get to an age where you're like, 'Well, we hear that.'"

Parker was referencing to some interviews that Cattrall did in 2016 where she said she was "done" playing Samantha Jones. The actress had enough playing the role after six seasons and two movies.

Cattrall also aired her side of the story with EW, which resonated with Parker's message. She wasn't asked to join the show after she "made her feelings clear."

But what really happened between Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis?

For years, there have been reports that Cattrall and Parker had a falling out. After all, Cattrall had allegedly been speaking about Parker's past treatment towards her while on set.

Parker, on the other hand, shares that that wasn't her experience.

"It's so painful for people to keep talking about this 'catfight' — a fight, a fight, a fight. I've never uttered fighting words in my life about anybody that I've worked with ever. There has been no public dispute or spat or conversations or allegations made by me or anybody on my behalf. I wouldn't do it. That is not the way I would have it. So I just wish that they would stop calling this a 'catfight' or an 'argument,' because it doesn't reflect [reality]. There has been one person talking. And I'm not going to tell her not to, or anybody, so that's been kind of painful for me also."

Hopefully, the two will be able to mend their relationship and put an end to this years-long argument.

There are a total of 11 episodes of And Just Like That Season 2. Each episode will air on Max every Thursday until August 24, 2023.
