With the studio committed to expanding the universe even without the web-slinger's help, we can expect its roster of actors to include more star power.

Now, a new rumor suggests that Sony's shared Spidey Universe will recruit arguably one of the most sought-after female stars in Hollywood today, and if it ends up being true, Sony is definitely onto something.

According to a recent round of 4chan leaks surrounding Sony's Spidey Universe posted on the MarvelStudios_Rumours subreddit, the studio is looking to cast Ana de Armas in the standalone Spider-Woman film helmed by Olivia Wilde.

The leak claims that although details have remained scarce about the project, it's currently in development with the studio hoping it would be ready for release sometime in 2024.

Additionally, the plot for the said film reads: "Jessica Drew developing spider-like powers as a child due to a serum created by her father and being captured by a criminal organization that tries to turn her into a weapon."

"Jessica manages to escape and lead a peaceful life until the organization locates her, forcing Jessica to join forces with a government agent to take them down."

It's worth mentioning that Sony's Spider-Man Universe already has a Spider-Woman in Sydney Sweeney but as it stands, we've yet to confirm whether or not she's playing Jessica Drew and with the latest rumors surrounding de Armas coming into play, we can safely assume that Sweeney is playing a different character.

As for de Armas' potential involvement in the solo Spider-Man film, the rising actress has solidified herself as a bonafide star, proving over the last couple of years that she has what it takes to lead her own project.

Meanwhile, Sony's next live-action Spider-Man spinoff film, Kraven the Hunter is hitting cinemas on October 6, 2023.
