The Infinity Stones were one of the most powerful and essential items in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Each stone had its own origin, and Thanos' search for the stones was the reason for their popularity and value throughout the franchise. However, the stones now have stories of their own which are told through comics. The gems are now scattered throughout the universe and it looks like the Reality Stone has found its owner.
When Adam Warlock succeeded in putting an end to the dangerous threat that unfolded in the recent Infinity Wars comic event, the stones were sent out into the cosmos, having souls of their own, they are free to go whatever path they choose.
Unfortunately, the Reality Stone did not end up with Captain Marvel. Instead, it found its home in Ripley Ryan a.k.a Star, who is Carol Danver's enemy.
In Captain Marvel #11, Danvers defeated Star by punching a hole through her chest to rip out the Kree device which was the source of Star's superpowers. Surprisingly, Star survived this but she is now locked up in The Raft. When she was in prison, she eventually realized that she didn't need the device in order to become powerful.
The reason? It's not because she possesses the Reality Stone, it's because she is the Reality Stone. Ripley managed to get out of prison, and with the Reality Stone in her possession, Star easily becomes one of Marvel's most powerful villains.
The issue closes off with an open ending, making readers wonder what Star is up to next, knowing that she is now in possession of the Reality Stone. CBR thinks that the Kree device could have just masked her true power and now that it's gone, the Reality Stone "has awakened inside her."
We could only find out the answer in the upcoming issue Captain Marvel #12 which will be released on November 20.
