Disney Plus dropped all eight episodes of American Born Chinese on Wednesday, May 24, to the warm reception of many. With its positive reviews and critical acclaim, will the American Born Chinese Season 2 be made?
Based on Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel of the same name, the show follows the story of the high school student Beng Wang (Jin Wang) and his journey as he gets caught in a mythical Chinese gods’ battle. With its success and stellar cast ensemble, like Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, it looks like American Born Chinese Season 2 isn’t far from happening.
The Possible American Born Chinese Season 2
Aside from its star power, the show has delivered coming-of-age elements perfectly blending with its action-comedy theme.
Screen Rant noted that it’s now one of the “most uniquely diverse shows” on Disney Plus, fulfilling its promise as one of the most anticipated new series this year.
With this series of successes, it’s not far that American Born Chinese Season 2 will be in the works.

However, the network has yet to renew the show. But with the premiere season’s overwhelmingly positive reception, it’s a good sign for the show to continue.

Gene Luen Yang Hints at Possible American Born Chinese Season 2
In an interview with CBR, Yang hinted at the possible American Born Chinese Season 2 while revealing his hopes to have the Shang-Chi star Simu Lui in it.
“We talked to Simu,” he revealed.

“I think it might have been a scheduling conversation at one point, but Simu was definitely going to be on the show at one point,” he continued. “He’s good friends with director Destin Daniel Cretton. He knows a lot of us. Knock on wood; we can get him for another season if we get one.”
What May Happen in American Born Chinese Season 2?
Sure, the show’s premiere season reached the graphic novel’s end, but its mythological origins open the door to a lot of possibilities.
Screen Rant added that Jin could continue exploring growing up as an Asian American, while the series could introduce other mythological Chinese figures.

The protagonist can also go on another quest across the realms. With the possible coming of a new cast member Liu, there’s an array of possibilities for American Born Chinese Season 2.
