AMC Delays Premiere of The Walking Dead Spin-off World Beyond

It looks like everything is being postponed right now due to the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), even the apocalypse. AMC has just announced that it is delaying the premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, the second spin-off series based on the post-apocalyptic zombie show.

The official The Walking Dead Twitter account confirmed the news with a new poster for the spin-off series. Check it out below.

First of all, I had completely forgotten that there was another The Walking Dead show in the works. However, the first season of the new series has reportedly completed production and is already set for its premiere in April. So why delay the release?

Collider suggests that AMC could be choosing to push it back to late 2020 since major companies are putting a hold on their ad spending. Since the network relies on advertisers, they would have to wait until companies are ready to pay for ads before releasing the new show.

World Beyond is still set in the same post-apocalyptic world as The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead. However, it focuses on the younger generation who are dealing with zombies. The new series will star Alexa Mansour, Aliyah Royale, Nicolas Cantu, Annet Mahendru, and Nico Tortorella as a group of sheltered teens who need to find a way to survive in the changing world.

The synopsis for World Beyond reads as follows:

"Two sisters along with two friends leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead on an important quest. Pursued by those who wish to protect them and those who wish to harm them, a tale of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves and each other. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. But all of them will find the truths they seek."

The Walking Dead: World Beyond has not yet been given a new release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
