It looks like even Sauron and the one true ring aren't safe from the Coronavirus either as Amazon's Lord of the Rings series has been delayed due to the worldwide epidemic. This shouldn't be surprising to anyone reading this since a number of events have been put on hold due to this potentially fatal disease. Right now, the estimated time of delay for this series is two weeks, though we'll have to wait and see if they extend it.
Reported by The New Zealand Herald, shutdown for the billion-dollar series production happened on Sunday and a memo was sent to the cast and crew to make sure everyone is aware of this. Considering how the country already has eight cases of COVID-19, this was a smart move, even if it ends up eating a lot of money.
In an abundance of caution, UAP [Untitled Amazon Project] has suspended production for the next two weeks commencing Monday, March 16. This is done in an environment where travel restrictions directed at the control of COVID-19 are issued daily by New Zealand and most other countries. We are doing this to minimise stress on the resources and infrastructures around us by doing our part to reduce population density in our communities and daily activities, in efforts to help reduce the spread of the virus.
Since we haven't seen anything from this new adaptation of Lord of the Rings, it's not much of a shame for those waiting for the series. That being said, we can understand why this would be a big pain to anyone working for the show so here's hoping everyone is safe and relaxed. It's going to be a restless two weeks for them and many of us can relate to the frustration.
Amazon's Lord of the Rings currently doesn't have a release date.
