Alolan Versions of Classic Pokémon are Coming to Pokémon GO

This was unexpected. With Niantic slowly bringing the other Pokemon generations to Pokemon GO, did anyone expect them to add Sun and Moon elements this quickly? But that's what the company did, announcing that the Alolan versions of Kanto Pokemon will soon be popping up in the popular mobile title, which should be a cause for celebration.

While the official details aren't clear yet, Niantic stated that the Alolan variants of these classic Pokemon will appear in the coming weeks. Though the image shared has blackened out most of these creatures, we can identify the Dark-Type Rattata, Psychic-Electric Raichu, Ghost-Fire Marowak, Dragon Exeggutor and so much more.

Considering how possible titles for the rumored Pokemon Switch game have been registered - Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Pokemon Let's Go! Eevee - this was an interesting decision. Rumor has it that these Let's Go games are essentially remakes of Yellow version, so we might not get a new generation yet.

Even with all of that, having Alolan variants appear in Pokemon GO this quickly is still quite the surprise. Some of these Pokemon are huge improvements over their original counterparts, with Rattata/Raticate being a solid example. Of course, Alolan Raichu is the best variant but we're all allowed to have different opinions.

Pokemon GO is now available for download on iOS and Android. Expect more news about the Alolan variants soon.
