All of Us Are Dead: Lee Yoo-Mi Defends Her Villainous Character

If you love her as Ji-yeong in the Korean hit TV series Squid Game, you’ll probably feel the opposite in Lee Yoo-Mi’s new project, the currently #1 Korean hit series in Netflix, All of Us Are Dead.

Yoo-Mi struck a lot of hearts with her role as Ji-yeong in Squid Game, Ji-yeong is a seemingly weird girl who doesn’t care about anything but as the story unravels, she turns out to be a selfless girl who is willing to sacrifice and kill herself for HoYeon Jung’s, Kang Sae-Byok.

Yoo-Mi became a favorite character throughout the Squid Game series in an instant and gained a massive following on social media.

But on the new, All of Us Are Dead series, you’ll probably hate her character the most. All of Us Are Dead is a Korean adaptation of the webtoon featuring the same title. The synopsis of the series focuses on a group of High Schools students in Hyosan High School, that apparently is the ground zero for a zombie outbreak.

But the zombie outbreak isn’t their only problem. All of Us Are Dead also tackles sensitive topics like teenage pregnancy, bullying, and narcissism.

Lee Yoo-Mi’s Character, Na-Yeon on the other hand is a selfish brat who only thinks about herself and proves that she is always right.

In a cast interview with Cosmopolitan Korea, the actress was given a chance to finally explain her complex character.

“She (Na- Yeon) has no choice but to be in a rush because she has to survive. Her desire to live was just expressed in a different way,”

And co-star Yoo Chan-Young also defended Na-Yeon's character that “(she) doesn’t say anything that isn’t true”. “In real life, you need someone like that.’

Yoo-Mi also explained her performance as an actress if the viewers hater her character.

“If she’s really mean, that means I acted well, right? If I receive hate, I will think that I did as well as the amount of hate I receive. It’s fine if you send hate and it’s fine if you pity her.”

We can definitely say that Yoo-Mi did great because she just gained followers on Instagram from 40,000 to 7.1 million. Yoo-Mi may be hated on her role, but her acting career is definitely moving up.

All of Us Are Dead is now available on Netflix.
