Alita: Battle Angel BTS Featurette Showcases Amazing Mo-Cap Tech

This Valentine's Day will see the release of Alita: Battle Angel and promotions for the film have been going stronger than ever. Just in, we have a new BTS featurette focusing on bringing Alita to life onscreen, and WETA boasts the most photo-real CGI character ever made for cinema.

Check it out:

Admittedly, a lot of people have been criticizing the look of Alita for being too much in the ‘uncanny valley' but they have to remember that the character is not supposed to be human since she's a robot. I do like how the movie managed to keep to the anime aesthetic and give her gigantic eyes.

On a side note, I also think that Rosa Salazar absolutely shines as Alita. Alita may be a cute robot girl on the surface, but she can snap right into a fighter in the blink of an eye.

If anything, I think people will grow more comfortable with Alita's look as the movie trudges along. I mean, everyone hated the look of Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when the trailers first came out, but the characters quickly grew on viewers as the movie played on.

Let's hope Alita: Battle Angel manages to dazzle.

When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she's grown to love.

Alita: Battle Angel comes out Feb. 14.
