Alicia Vikander Disappointed By Lack Of Women In Tomb Raider Reboot

Lara Croft might be one of cinema's biggest female icons, but it seems like Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander just couldn't help but express disappointment in the fact that there are only a few female roles in her upcoming reboot.

Sitting down to speak with The One Show by BBC (via Digital Spy), Vikander opened up about how she felt about the Tomb Raider reboot having only two women in the film.

"I got to work with Kristin Scott Thomas and she is an extraordinary actress, but me too, yeah, I agree. I was wondering on this island, ‘There is not enough women, where are they?' I was running around looking for them!"

In the film, Scott Thomas plays an associate at Croft Holdings named Ana Miller. Though the film centers around Vikander's Lara Croft, it's rather disturbing that the Tomb Raider reboot has only two women in it. Sure the film might pass the Bechdel test ( a feminist indicator that requires at least two women sharing a scene together where they talk about a subject that isn't men), the lack of female roles is rather disappointing. Movie fans would hope for more, especially after Wonder Woman. Guess change doesn't come as quickly as one would expect.

Tomb Raider premieres on March 16, 2018.
