Alfred Molina Confirmed to Return as Doc Ock for Spider-Man 3

Last month a rumor was going around that Alfred Molina would be reprising the part of Otto Octavius in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, and though it was also rumored back then, it looks like they've turned out to be true.

Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Molina is indeed coming back as Doc Ock for Spider-Man 3 starring Tom Holland. We don't know how much work Molina has done in the film, but if rumors are to be believed, he has already started shooting his parts in Atlanta for a while.

Molina's involvement further fuels the Multiverse rumors that have been going around for the movie, what with reports of Jamie Foxx (Electro) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) being cast in the movie as well. The only thing missing is confirmation that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be reprising their Spider-Man roles as well.

While I am happy to see all the old cast members come back, I'm kind of worried about what this means for Tom Holland's Spider-Man. With two solo films on his belt, Holland's Peter Parker has been in the shadow of mentors like Tony Stark and Nick Fury, but having him appear alongside previous stars feels like he's definitely going to get overshadowed.

Then again, I could be reading too much into it. Hopefully, director Jon Watts and Kevin Feige share the same concerns and will be sparing with the fanservice. Hopefully, they've learned what overindulgence in nostalgia can get you thanks The Rise of Skywalker.

Spider-Man 3 is set to come out on December 17, 2021.
