Alden Ehrenreich Says Solo’s Cast And Crew Had No Idea About That Surprise Cameo Either

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Lucasfilm's latest Star Wars spinoff, Solo: A Star Wars Story, had a lot of great nods, references, and cameos, but the best treat came from one of the most unexpected Star Wars characters – Darth Maul.

During the final arc of Solo, fans find Qi'Ra (Emilia Clarke) betraying Han by contacting the head of the crime syndicate the Crimson Dawn, a character who turns out to be none other than the iconic Phantom Menace Sith Lord, Maul. Though fans had been expecting other Star Wars characters like Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt to make physical appearances in the film, no one had a clue that Solo screenwriters Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan actually put Maul in the film.

Even Solo's lead star, Alden Ehrenreich, had no idea.

Speaking in an interview with ET Canada (via Express), Ehrenreich revealed that the cast and a majority of the crew didn't know about Maul's cameo in Solo until during the later parts of production. When asked about when he learned about the character's appearance, Ehrenreich responded that the revelation was made later on during the reshoots of the film.

"There was a part in the script where it said somebody appears but it didn't say who, so there was speculation among the cast and crew over who it was gonna be," Ehrenreich explained. "Everyone was kind of talking about it. There were a lot of rumors."

The Kasdan father-son writing duo did leave the role unnamed when they wrote the script, later on deciding that Maul was the best character for the part. What did you think of the former Sith Lord's surprise cameo in Solo? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
