Alan Rickman, Harry Potter Actor, Dies At Age 69

British actor Alan Rickman has passed away, at age 69, after suffering from cancer.

The Guardian reports that Rickman's death was confirmed by his family.


Rickman's breakout performance was his 1985 role as the Vicomte de Valmont in the play Les Liaisons Dangerouses, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. He's well known for his performances as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films.

Rickman has won a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
