Aladdin’s Will Smith Promises That Genie Will Be Blue In The Movie

Disney dropped its first look images for its upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin this morning and not only did fans get to see Canadian actor Mena Massoud dressed up as Aladdin and Power Rangers' Naomi Scott as Jasmine, but they also got to see Will Smith's version of Genie. While Massoud and Scott both seem to have pretty accurate costumes, Smith's Genie seems to be much more human compared to the magical look of the djinn in the original animated Aladdin.

Knowing that this might spark some concern from the fanbase, Smith has taken to social media to promise that his Genie is going to go full on blue in the actual movie. Sharing the cover photo of Entertainment Weekly on Instagram, Smith tells fans to check him out "rockin' the Top Kot Ponytail Vibes in Entertainment Weekly," reassuring everyone that "yes, I'm gonna be BLUE!" in the film.

While the human-looking photo does seem to alarm dedicated fans of Disney's animated movies, Smith says that this version of Genie in the cover of Entertainment Weekly is the "human form" that the character will use as a disguise while walking around the city of Agrabah. Replying to a fan's comment on his post, the actor confirmed that Genie would appear "human" only on occasion, revealing that the character would appear in CGI throughout most of Aladdin.

We hope that's enough to help assuage the fanbase's concerns over Genie's look.

Aladdin is set for release on May 24, 2019.
