Ahsoka was Originally Meant to Be Part of Black-Market World

Ahsoka's been the talk of the town the past few weeks. Anakin's former Padawan has been in the spotlight ever since she made her return in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and there's been a lot of excitement over the prospect of the character making her way to Star Wars: The Mandalorian with reports saying that Marvel Netflix star Rosario Dawson is in talks to play the role.

Now, as The Clone Wars fast approaches its season finale, fans get to learn more about Ahsoka thanks to an in-depth article by Vanity Fair. Speaking in an interview with the character's creator Dave Filoni and voice actress Ashley Eckstein, the entertainment news outlet gathers all the nitty-gritty about Ahsoka, revealing surprising details about the character.

According to Filoni, Anakin's Jedi Padawan had given the name Ashla before George Lucas decided on naming the character Ahsoka.

"We called her Ashla in the beginning. That was 2005, and that worked on several levels for me. I think it was the name given to one of the [young Jedis Yoda was training] in Attack of the Clones,"theStar Wars showrunner told Variety, "There was a little Togruta girl. We kicked around the idea that maybe that was Ahsoka but then we thought the age didn't really work out for it to be the same character. She was too young in the film."

Not only that, but Ahsoka was supposed to be more involved in underground dealings than she is in the current running of The Clone Wars.

During the conception of the character, Ahsoka was "more involved in the black-market world." The character was supposed to be "involved in the intrigue and the plots" of where Filoni's team ended up in the seventh season of The Clone Wars.

Now that's an interesting detail. Imagine Ahsoka working in the shadows. Filoni makes it sound like Ahsoka was supposed to be closer to scoundrels than the Jedi.
