News had come out last week that Rosario Dawson has been cast as Ahsoka Tano for The Mandalorian, and while some love this news, there are fans who thought that Ahsoka's voice actress Ashley Eckstein deserved to be cast in the live-action role. With everyone messaging Eckstein after the news of Dawson's casting, Eckstein has come out with a statement regarding the casting of a live-action Ahsoka.
While the statement seems pragmatic enough, reading between the lines can suggest that Eckstein was disappointed that she didn't get cast in the part. Why else would she emphasize that she as ‘performed in all types of mediums' and it was her dream to ‘play Ahsoka Tano in all forms.'?
Just in case you're curious, here's what Eckstein looks like in her Ahsoka cosplay:
While I have no doubt that Eckstein is a capable actress, I still think that Dawson is the better choice for a live-action Ahsoka. For one, she looks the part, and Disney is probably banking on her popularity to help draw in fans who aren't so familiar with Anakin's former Padawan.
If it's any consolation, there hasn't been any official confirmation from Lucasfilm (or Dawson herself) that she had been cast in the part. Then again, some are taking this silence as confirmation enough; and Dawson herself had said she wanted to take on the role.
Whatever happens, I just hope that Disney casts the right actress.
