Ahsoka Star on Whether Voice Actors Have the Qualifications to Play Live-Action Roles

There might have been a whole lot of excitement when word came out that Lucasfilm was casting Marvel Netflix star Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, however, there was also quite a number of Star Wars fans who were none too pleased that Lucasfilm didn't give the role to the character's voice actor, Ashley Eckstein.

Speaking in an interview with ComicBook.com in its podcast Comic Book Nation to talk about her new Star Wars children's book I Am A Padawan, Eckstein decides to address this issue. Discussing all things Star Wars, the voice actress opens up whether voice actors should be considered for the roles that they play when their characters transition into the live-action arena.

While Eckstein is excited to see Ahsoka make her way to Disney+, the voice actress reminds everyone ]=that voice acting is also acting. Voice actors and actresses don't need to be limited to voice work.

"So I will say one thing: I read a lot and I've been outspoken about just because I feel like I need to be outspoken for all voice actors," Eckstein says. "Voice acting is acting and some people say, 'Oh well, she's just a voice actress." No, actually Ahsoka was my first voiceover job. I was primarily a film and television actress before I became Ahsoka so I do all sorts of live-action and film and television but the only reason I bring that up is not even for myself. Voice acting is acting and some of the most brilliant actors I've ever met are voice actors. I mean Corey Burton, who is the voice of Count Dooku and Cad Bane, is probably one of the most brilliant actors I've ever witnessed in my life. So I only say that just because I think it's important to speak up for voice actors. We're all actors at the end of the day."

It's interesting to hear Eckstein speak up about her capability as an actress. Sure, Dawson might have some star power to hear, but Lucasfilm should have given Eckstein the opportunity to audition for the role atleast. The voice actress has quite a strong following among Star Wars fans. We're sure that Eckstein would make a great live-action Ahsoka.
