Agents of SHIELD Showrunner Wants You to Stop Calling COVID-19 the 'Chinese Virus'

The Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) already has everyone living in fear of being infected but it might also have another scary consequence. People have started referring to COVID-19 as the "Chinese virus" and it's causing those of Asian descent to become the victims of racial hate. Not surprisingly, celebrities are now speaking up against the term and the Agents of SHIELD showrunner has decided to address the problem.

Maurissa Tancharoen took to her official Instagram account to speak up about the racially charged term. Take a look at her post below.

"Asians around the world are experiencing racism in the wake of the Coronavirus, and hatred and violence are only encouraged when people in positions of power refer to it as the 'Chinese Virus.' Let's call it what it is, a global pandemic, and let's unify in support of our @phenomenal Asian community when others in leadership are unwilling to do so. Be kind, wash your hands, and stay strong," Tancharoen wrote.

Tancharoen isn't the first person to publicly call out Donald Trump for coining the term about COVID-19. It was previously reported that Agents of SHIELD star Chloe Bennett wrote a lengthy message addressing the matter.

For now, there is no cure for COVID-19 although scientists are already working hard at it. Hopefully, the pandemic will soon be over so people can stop using the term 'Chinese virus'.

The seventh and final season of Agents of SHIELD is expected to premiere on ABC in mid-2020.
