Actor Lee Sun Kyun is up to compete against international actors at this year's International Emmy Awards.

The resurgence of Lee Sun Kyun's career started in 2018 when he marked his TV comeback through My Mister. Although he started his career in 2007, he waited for years before seeing a rising success starting in 2012.

But this year, he reached the highest point of his life as an actor ahead of the International Emmy Awards.

Actor Lee Sun Kyun Makes It on International Emmy Awards Nominees List

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences presented the list of nominees for the upcoming 2022 ceremony.

Lee Sun Kyun's name flourished, even more, when his name appeared in the Best Performance by an Actor nomination, thanks to his performance in the sci-fi K-drama Dr. Brain. The flick tells the story of Sewon, his character, a brain scientist who conducts brain syncs with dead people. That way, he finds clues to solve the mystery surrounding the accident that affected his family and killed his wife.

He became the second Korean actor to reach the milestone, following Jang Hyuk's nomination in 2011 for his performance in The Slave Hunters.

Lee Sun Kyun, at the same time, became the first Korean-language original on Apple TV+.

The actor is up against A Royal Secret's Sverrir Gudnason, Narcos: Mexico's Scoot McNairy, and Irvine Welsh's Crime's Dougray Scott.

Aside from Lee Sun Kyun, a K-drama made it to the ceremony.

Park Eun Bin and Rowoon's historical romance, The King's Affection, has been nominated and is battling against Nos Tempos Do Imperador, You Are My Hero and Two Lives.

The 50th International Emmy Awards will be on November 21 in New York.

Lee Sun Kyun Has New Drama

While waiting for the result, Lee Sun Kyun confirmed his upcoming drama with Moon Chae Won.

SBS confirmed last month that the duo would lead Beopjjeon (romanized title), which explores the lives of people who fight the money cartel. The actor stars as businessman Eun Yong while Moon Chae Won plays the role of an elite judicial officer named Park Joong Kyung.

"All the cast and crew are doing their best to create a high-quality drama that will take over the drama [industry] in 2023. Please look forward to the new Friday-Saturday drama 'Beopjjeon,' which will be the outcome of everyone's hard work and enthusiasm," the production team said.
