Bad Reviews on The Acolyte Suggest Cancellation of Season 2
The Acolyte season 1 premiered its first two episodes on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, and yet somehow, word had gotten out that the new Star Wars show is not getting renewed for a second season.
Ahead of the premiere of The Acolyte, an alleged industry insider claimed that the series had been canceled before it even reached the platform, calling it a "one-and-done proposition."
This news hasn't been followed since then. However, it appears to be that the show is not being received well by franchise fans despite earning a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Take note though that the cancellation of season 2 is not accurate, as nothing has been confirmed yet.

What The Acolyte Showrunners Have in Store For Season 2 So Far
"I definitely pitched The Acolyte as a multi-season show," showrunner Leslye Headland previously revealed, "There are a lot of things at the end of this season that I think are narrative threads that are not tied up, for sure."
Headland added that season 2 could come to fruition "pretty quickly" since they have "a lot of ideas" and have their own definite timeline for its production.
As for news on The Acolyte season 2's cancellation, again, nothing is absolute for the Disney+ series yet, not until it finishes airing all six episodes.
Headland noted she would want to "see how the show performs" in terms of its ratings and what fans want to see in the story before diving back into writing.
So, similar to how previous shows worked, Disney+ is still likely keeping a close eye on The Acolyte's performance before fully deciding what to do with it.
