Aaron Taylor-Johnson May Not be Returning as Quicksilver Any Time Soon

Throughout the entirety of its run this past decade so far, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has killed and written off several of its most noteworthy characters. Despite this, however, it has always proven itself to be open for resurrections (see: Loki). And with the announcement and coming of WandaVision and What If…?, fans have been hoping for one long-awaited return: Quicksilver.

Having first appeared in a mid-credits scene for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Quicksilver, otherwise known as Pietro, was the twin brother of Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch. Audiences first got to know the two orphaned twins better during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, where the backstory of how they got their origin powers was shown and how they first got together with the Avengers. The film also, however, marked the death of Pietro who sacrificed himself to save Hawkeye and a child.

This abrupt end for the hero has left fans hoping for even at least a brief cameo in another film for years now and with Scarlet Witch getting a show of her own, this hope has only been further ignited. Quicksilver actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, however, says hopefuls shouldn't hold their breath.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Taylor-Johnson denies any solid plans for a return but does not dismiss the idea either.

"I think we're both open to possibilities, like the Marvel Universe like it has been over the years, but obviously yes, I'm aware of the Disney+ platform and all of the shows that are going and I'm still in touch with a lot of the people," he said. "I mean, I think it's safe to say that no, I'm not gonna… there will be no appearance of me coming out or Quicksilver appearing anytime soon."

Let's all hope for the best and for Marvel to hopefully find a place for Quicksilver in the future. In the meantime, we can all look forward to seeing his twin sister back on WandaVision which is set to drop on Disney+ on 2021.
