When Will the Elden Ring Movie Be Released?

Hidetaka Miyazaki first expressed interest in adapting Elden Ring into other media in June 2024, followed by George R. R. Martin teasing a potential film or television adaptation.
Director Alex Garland later shared his personal experience playing the game with A24’s head of film, Noah Sacco. From there, Garland wrote a 160-page spec script along with 40 pages of visual materials.
Sacco then flew Garland to Japan to finalize a deal with FromSoftware, and in May 2025, the live-action adaptation of Elden Ring was officially put into development at A24.
Principal photography began in April 2026 in the UK and Scotland. Filming is set to continue in Iceland during the summer and is expected to last around 100 days, with a reported budget exceeding $100 million, making it one of A24’s most ambitious projects to date.
With production underway, several set leaks have already given fans an early look at what appears to be a game-accurate statue of Marika, as well as large pylons reminiscent of those seen across Limgrave.
The Elden Ring movie is currently slated for release on March 3, 2028, in IMAX.
