7 Times Thor Made You Laugh Out Loud in The MCU

Since 2011, Thor went from becoming one of the most serious and arrogant characters in The MCU to easily one of the funniest.

Bring Me Another

Straight from the first Thor film, we memorably see a powerless Thor enjoy his first cup of coffee in a small-town diner. After finishing his cup, he says “I like this drink” before then hurling it to the floor while screaming “Another!” Thor certainly becomes more domesticated throughout the rest of The MCU films.

'Asguardians' of The Galaxy

When The Guardians of The Galaxy meet Thor for the first time in Avengers Infinity War, the scenes are set up for comedy gold. However, no interaction is as hilarious and awkward as the power struggle between Thor and Peter Quill. Towards the end of Endgame when Thor gets back on The Guardians’ ship. There is a great moment when Thor surrenders control to Quill while playing with the map before saying that everyone can agree it’s obvious who is in charge.

After an awkward pause when Quill has to confirm that “It is me right?”, Thor laughs and says “Oh of course”. He says this three times while holding back his grin and looking at Peter Quill with love. The awkwardness of this exchange is a truly laugh-out-loud moment! Thankfully it is rumored that some of the guardians will be appearing in Thor 4 Love and Thunder so it would be great to see more of this chemistry occur!

He's A Friend From Work

The epic moment when Thor has to face “The Champion” in Thor Ragnarok is truly unforgettable and so good they even put it in the trailer. The champion has never been beaten and even killed “Doug” so everyone is surprised when Thor yells out in excitement and happiness before saying “He’s a friend from work!”

The best part of that line is that it was actually written by a young boy from the make-a-wish-foundation who was visiting the set that day. The third Thor film was roughly 80% improvised and became one of the funniest films in The MCU thanks to director Taiki Waititi.

Keeps Interrupting Surtur

It doesn’t take long to recognize that Thor Ragnarok is a very different kind of film than Thor and Thor 2 Dark World. At the beginning of Thor Ragnarok, we see him chained up being hung in front of the fire demon Surtur who begins monologing at Thor with his plans of Ragnarok. After calling Surtur a “Son of a b**ch”, every time Surtur attempts to make threats, we find that the momentum of Thor's body means that as he hangs there helpless and listening, his body keeps turning the wrong away so Surturs threat is never quite landing.

Thankfully Taika Waititi is also signed on for Thor 4 Love and thunder so we should be likely to see more humor shine through!

Loki Turned Into A Snake

While trying to escape Sakaar, Thor explains why Loki can’t be trusted and does so with this glorious story:

There was one time when we were children, he transformed himself into a snake, and he knows that I love snakes. So, I went to pick up the snake to admire it and he transformed back into himself and he was like, "Blergh, it's me!". And he stabbed me.

This is improvised, but what’s just as funny are the stories and lines that didn’t quite cut such as:

I was walking through a field, and I saw a lovely Turkish rug in the middle of the grass, and I love Turkish rugs, so I went to stand on it, and it was Loki and he turned back into Loki and there was a hole and I fell through the hole and was impaled on a whole lot of spikes.

Get Help

Another example of Thor and Loki’s childhood banter has to be their favorite Norse game “get help” where Thor will pretend that Loki is injured, scream “get help” before throwing his brother at the enemy. This is just such an unexpected yet hilarious outcome in which Loki replies “I still hate it!”

Fat Thor

There is no denying that from the moment we meet a “jolly” Thor in Avengers Endgame, he is hilarious in every scene. We see him going from the great and powerful god of thunder to a beer-drinking, game-playing Big Lebowski “look-alike” who, in the words of Rhodie - should be dead from the cheese whizz coursing through his veins.

He has some truly outstanding moments of hilarity during his time as Fat Thor, pretty much in every scene. So these are a few quick memorable moments;

  • Looking as though he is asleep when planning to travel through time and capture the infinity stones.
  • presenting about the ether to the rest of the avengers while clearly drunk before breaking down because Jane left him.
  • Finding out that Captain America was worthy of wielding Mjolnir as screaming “I knew it!”

There is no denying that Thor is one of the most loved Avengers. Not just for his awesome power but for the wonderful awkward humor that he carries with him wherever he goes. When did Thor most make you laugh?

Thor 4 is due to release in cinemas May 6, 2022 so there’s no doubt there will be more laugher and entertainment on the way!
