7 Core Set 2021 Magic: The Gathering Rares Reveal A New Mythic Rare Dragon & More

Wizards of the Coast, the publisher of Magic: The Gathering, has revealed rares from the upcoming Core Set 2021 today, including a Mythic Rare dragon that deals damage equal to the power of the creature that enters the battlefield under your control. It's called Terror of the Peaks.

Magic has featured powerful Standard-legal dragons before. Five-to-cast red dragons like Glorybringer saw their fair amount of competitive play when they were Standard-legal.

In addition to the Niambi, Esteemed Speaker and Brash Taunter revealed earlier today, here are the other Core Set 2021 rares:

Speaker of the Heavens

Lifegain archetypes never get taken seriously in a competitive level, but hopefully with Core Set 2021 cards like this one, we will see it emerge in Standard. A one-to-cast creature that could make a 4/4 Flying Angel every turn is a great deal, so I hope Standard has some efficient ways to get to 27 life consistently early enough.

Glorious Anthem

Looks like white weenies will be back with the release of Core Set 2021. This is a welcome reprint for decks that will run Basri Ket and other fast white creatures.

Discontinuity

Taking extra turns in Magic is fun. This is going to be a build-around-me card that fits well in a Turbo Turns strategy. Could this be the next Nexus of Fate?

Animal Sanctuary

Core Set 2021 has a good amount of cats and dogs, and this land is surely a must-have for tribal decks that support the creatures mentioned here.

Liliana's Standard Bearer

Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths featured some decent black creatures that have Flash. With this Core Set 2021 addition, we might see Blue/Black Flash emerge to top tier in Standard. This could be an effective sideboard card against decks that run boardwipe spels.

Kaervek, the Spiteful

If Kaervek wasn't legendary, I'd rank it higher but a 3/2 body that could kill 1 toughness tokens the turn it comes into play is not bad at all.

Core Set 2021 is set to release on July 3 with Prerelease events scheduled from June 26 to July 2.
