J.R.R. Tolkien’s magical world of Middle-earth has enchanted millions since the very first mention of The Shire. With the vivid storytelling in Tolkien’s books, the cinematic grandeur of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Amazon Prime Video’s The Rings of Power, fans are continually drawn back into this beautiful realm.
Season 2 of The Rings of Power promises to take us further by exploring new and familiar locations, giving viewers a deeper glimpse into Tolkien’s Middle-earth.
Lord of The Rings: Rings of Power Shot in the UK
For the first time in the history of Tolkien adaptations, filming for The Rings of Power moved out of New Zealand and into the UK. This shift marks a new chapter in the visual portrayal of Middle-earth while also leaving room for more locations from the geography of Tolkien’s fantastical realm.
The upcoming season might take us to places central to Middle-earth's lore and legends, from volcanic terrains to mystical mountains.
More of Mount Doom
Many mountains are mentioned in Middle-earth, but the most important one is Mount Doom. It is the most iconic mountain in Middle-earth. Season 1 of The Rings of Power provided an explosive origin story for this formidable peak, setting the stage for the dark lands of Mordor.
The trailer for Season 2 hints at a deeper dive into Mount Doom's story, showing the land as it transforms and gains its notorious name. We might even see how Sauron staked his claim on this volcanic fortress.
We Might Get a Glimpse of Barad-dûr
Speaking of Sauron, Season 2's trailer gives us our first look at Barad-dûr, the centre of Sauron’s evil domain of Mordor. Though the design differs slightly from the films, it remains recognisable and imposing.
In Tolkien's tales, Barad-dûr is rebuilt after its initial construction, allowing the series some creative freedom in its depiction. With the One Ring’s forging likely on the horizon, Barad-dûr is set to become a central hub of dark power.

Meneltarma: The Sacred Mountain of Númenor
Númenor also appears in the new trailer. Whenever the island kingdom graces our screens, viewers are treated to a glimpse of a towering mountain rising above the landscape, which might be Meneltarma.
This sacred peak, untouched by permanent structures, hosts religious ceremonies under the open sky and is home to the majestic Eagles of Manwë.

As we can see in the Rings of Power season 2 trailer, Giant Eagles are bag, and the presence of these sacred guardians suggests we’ll see more of Númenor's rich spiritual heritage and breathtaking scenery.
The Eastern Lands of Rhûn
One of the more intriguing glimpses from the trailer is a desert-like region that appears to be Rhûn, an area largely unexplored in Tolkien’s writings—known as the Eastlands, Rhûn.
Unless you’re a massive fan of Tolkien, not everyone knows about this location since not much has been written about it.

Rhûn is home to diverse groups, such as the Easterlings, some Dwarves, and the mysterious Avari. With its strategic significance and fierce inhabitants, this arid land adds a fresh dimension to Middle-earth, expanding the universe beyond the familiar forests and plains.
Eregion: The Realm of Elven Smiths
Eregion also makes a notable appearance, but things are not looking too good for the realm of Elven smiths. Led by Celebrimbor, this kingdom is crucial in the history of the Rings of Power.
While we have yet to see Eregion in all its glory, Season 2 promises to delve into its fate and the pivotal events that took place there.

The Rings of Power Will Take Us to Places Beyond Lord of the Rings
