5 Reasons Made in Abyss is Worth Watching Reg

Made in Abyss is originally a manga series by Akihito Tsukushi. It is about Riko, an orphan girl, who found and befriended Reg, a humanoid robot. She entered the Abyss that led to the depths of the Earth in order to find her mother. But is Made in Abyss worth watching?

The manga was serialized online in Web Comic Gamma in 2012 and can be collected in 11 tankobon volumes as of writing. Kinema Citrus adapted the manga into an anime and aired it on July 2017, followed by a sequel film on January 2022.

The second season of Made in Abyss made its premiere on July 2022. If you are still unsure whether to watch this fantasy anime or not, here are five reasons you should definitely give it a try.

  1. The characters are easy to love

While watching Made in Abyss, it is really hard not to get attached to the characters. Despite the show being an adventure anime, the characters are the main reason people watch because viewers want to see them succeed in their mission.

Every time a character is put in a dangerous situation, the viewers become worried about them. Each character has a unique personality as well, and as time goes by, viewers can’t help but cheer for them.

Riko and Reg are different in their own way, but they complement each other, which makes their tandem the best.

  2. The environment is dark, yet addicting

Although not everyone would appreciate a dark and gloomy world, Made in Abyss stands out by showing an unfiltered story that portrays how cruel and dark the world can be.

The fantasy anime emphasizes a mature version of how the characters struggle and survive each realm as the story progresses.

Each level of the Abyss is crucial as it can develop and push the characters to their limits and even put their lives at risk sometimes.

The environment is complicated yet addicting because the viewers want to know what happens next.

  3. The story gives viewers hope

The dark environment gives enough tension for viewers to wonder what happens next in the story, such as whether Riko will ever find her mother or not. And what will they find at the bottom of the Abyss?

The series sets an expectation that there is always something bad or dangerous awaiting the characters, but Made in Abyss still gives hope that it will end well.

It might be because the viewers are already attached to the characters, so even if the story becomes dark and uncertain, deep inside, everyone just wants Riko and Reg to succeed or even just survive the Abyss.

  4. The soundtrack complements the story

We all know how music can add emotions to the story and Made in Abyss maximizes the use of its soundtrack to add tension to each episode.

It showcases the emotions of the characters, the feel of each level, and the importance of each scene.

Separately, the soundtracks don’t have much impact, but when they are added to the fantasy anime, they evoke various emotions and emphasis in the show.

Each OST was specifically made for the series, which makes it interesting and unique.

  5. The character designs surprise the viewers

Just by looking at the poster, no one would expect what kind of anime Made in Abyss is. It looks like something that children would love as its art is similar to children's shows. But once viewers actually watch the anime, they would be surprised by the tone and approach of the show.

The surprise that viewers get is something that could make them hooked on the show.

With its music, environment, and mystery, Made in Abyss is indeed a must-watch anime. There is so much to look forward to and the manga isn’t even over yet.

It is truly the ideal anime for those who are into adventure, mystery, and fantasy.
