Tokyo Ghoul’s New Trailer Shows More Action

Hot on the heels of a new trailer for Tokyo Ghoul's live-action film, another one has been revealed, this time providing a lengthier look at the world of humans and ghouls.

The trailer, seen below, shows footage that has been previously showcased in the earlier trailer. We've already seen a glimpse of other mainstays like Ken Kaneki, Touka, Nishiki-sempai, and even Hide. For the longer look, there's a glimpse of his life at the Anteiku cafe, with Yoshimura and the other café workers.

Scenes from Anteiku provide a more awkward look at the old Kaneki, something that I appreciate, because I think that's where the strength of the character lies--awkward as a human, insane as a Ghoul. There's even that rather peaceful scene where Kaneki is offered the coffee cup that would help salve his hunger for human flesh.

And Yoshimura's line "You're a human and a Ghoul. The only person that can have their place in two different worlds" is delivered with the same quiet impact I was expecting of it. We also get to hear part of the theme song from RADWIMPS, titled Banka.

And if you think you've seen enough of the kagunes in the first trailer, you can expect more here. In particular, we see a closer look at Uta's workshop and that damn mask. Pretty realistic and more menacing than the original in the anime if you ask me.

The biggest reveal is the first look at Kaneki fighting as a Ghoul with his kagune and mask on. The one thing that I'm really gunning for this film is for it to emulate the action that the anime counterpart has satisfactorily provided. It already wins in the world building and character creation anyway.

Tokyo Ghoul live-action film will be released in Japan this July. It will come to U.S. theaters as well, though Funimation has yet to announce specific premiere dates.
