The recently-aired Episode 3 of X-Men '97 brought back fan-favorite villain Mister Sinister as they are setting him up to be the team's biggest foil again.
Following the shocking arrival of a Jean Grey clone at the end of the second episode, fan theories have suggested that Mister Sinister might be the baddie behind the doppelganger of the mutant.
As it turns out, they were right as the new episode reintroduced Mister Sinister back into the game and haunted the team again.

X-Men '97 Episode 3 Reveals Mister Sinister is the Mastermind Behind the Jean Grey Clone
Episode 3 of X-Men '97 titled "Fire Made Flesh" addressed the cliffhanger of the second episode where the Jean Grey clone surprisingly showed up on the doorsteps of the X-Mansion.
It was revealed that the Jean Grey clone was actually the real version while the Jean Grey that married Cyclops and gave birth to their son Nathan is the clone created by Mister Sinister.
The Jean Grey clone (who later identified herself as Madelyne Pryor) transformed into the Goblin Queen and took the baby to Mister Sinister's laboratory as he planned to make him invincible.
Eventually, the real Jean was able to telepathically break the clone out of Sinister's control and helped the X-Men in their fight against the villain.
Unfortunately, it was too late as Nathan was already exposed to the techno-organic virus while Sinister disappeared.
As the X-Men failed to successfully fight Sinister, it is starting to look like they are setting him up to potentially become the big baddie of the season and it is likely that we will see him again in a future episode.
Mister Sinister notably made a recurring appearance throughout the original series and they are continuing the tradition in the new series as he remains to be a villainous presence.
It is curious to see where they will go with the villain in the rest of the season and whether he is indeed going to be the big baddie by the end.
