Super Mario Run to Require Internet Connection

Nintendo has been killing it with their mobile endeavors. Now, it seems like the killer streak is still on.

The new game that the company is looking at is called Super Mario Run, a mobile title that puts the idea of "run" to good use. Think of all the goodness of previous Mario games, but this time, it makes use of the mobile play style with one-hand gaming.

Speaking to Mashable, series creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared some details about the development of the game, starting with the fact that it needed an overhaul for this platform to let some players into the franchise.

"When we started working on the mobile version, we decided that, really, the best fit for mobile was a game that you can play with one hand where Mario is running left to right, towards a flagpole, and all you have to do is jump. So that was where we selected those core elements and began working on the project."

Perhaps the only thing that might turn players off is the fact that Super Mario Run does require Internet connectivity. Lack of offline play can already alienate a good deal of people. But when looking at this model, it does hint at how Pokemon Go is being played at the moment.

Whether or not this feature will affect Super Mario Run remains to be seen, But the good reception so far may make it a good contender to Pokemon Go in terms of engagement among players.

Super Mario Run will be out on the iOS on Dec. 15.
