Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn Talks Different Takes & Set Versions of the Movie

When Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered in cinemas, the movies proved that the Star Wars franchise is not reliant only on the main cast that made it the big franchise that it is. In addition, it also succeeded even without putting any Jedi in the movie, showing that the force can exist in other ways other than the tangible means that we've come to see in the franchise.

What some people may not have realized is that the successful version of Rogue One in cinemas was not the only one shot during filming. In fact, actor Ben Mendelsohn, who played the role of the Imperial's Orson Krennic, revealed that they had shot other very different versions of the scenes.

Speaking to Collider, Mendelsohn shared some of his thoughts about playing Krennic's role, as well as the multiple versions for Rogue One.

As far as Krennic's role is concerned, Mendelsohn said that the character's overall person remained the same, though director Gareth Edwards has had a couple of ideas that allowed an interplay of different renderings as far as Krennic's development was concerned.

More interesting would probably be the fact that some scenes were shot in ways that would allow the post-production to play with alternate scenarios and sets.

"We did have multiple, multiple ways of going at any given scenario, we had multiple readings of it. So should they ever decided to, there would be a wealth of ways of approaching these different things."

Mendelsohn added that the differences among the versions were actually enormous, particularly for around 20 to 30 of the scenes. If anything, it could easily create an entirely different version or an alternate cut for Rogue One.

Now the question is whether the creators will give us a sneak peek into these alternate cuts by way of the digital and Blu-ray version release of Rogue One somewhere down the line.
