Jon Hamm Joins Amazon's 'Good Omens'

After the success of American Gods, it's easy to see why Amazon would greenlight another Neil Gaiman property in Good Omens. Like American Gods, Good Omens is a well-loved book and fans cannot wait to see what Amazon and BBC do with the show. It looks like the network wants to add even more star power, adding Man Men star Jon Hamm as the archangel Gabriel.

"I read Good Omens almost 20 years ago," Hamm told Variety. "I thought it was one of the funniest, coolest books I'd ever read. It was also, obviously, unfilmable. Two months ago Neil sent me the scripts, and I knew I had to be in it."

Gabriel only has a minor role in the book, but Gaiman said he will be more prominent in the six-part series. Apparently, Gaiman was working on introducing the angels when Good Omens was going to be a movie. While the film has been scrapped, Gaiman will be incorporating the idea to the small screen.

The popular author is very happy to have Hamm in the role as Gabriel since he is supposed to be the opposite of Michael Sheen's Aziraphale. Gabriel is tall, good-looking and has great fashion sense, so he is basically John Hamm in real life.

Good Omens is slated for a 2019 premiere in Amazon Prime. BBC will then broadcast the show in the UK afterward. Hamm joins David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
