Jared Leto “Went Full Joker” & Gave the Suicide Squad Cast Really Disturbing Gifts During Filming

"Jared went full Joker."

The words above were what Will Smith, who plays Deadshot in Suicide Squad, told E! News to describe his co-star really getting into character and sending some really weird stuff to the film's cast during filming.

Previous Suicide Squad cast interviews pretty much revealed already some of the crazy stuff Leto did behind the scenes of the film. We know he sent Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) a mouse, Smith some bullets, and the entire cast a dead pig.

Apparently, we hadn't heard everything yet.

In the new interview with E! News, the Dallas Buyers Club star himself shared the other disturbing things he gave to the Suicide Squad cast. Aside from the pig corpse, bullets, and mouse, Leto said he sent Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje some used condoms and anal beads as part of his method acting technique.

He said:

I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise, of spontaneity, and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there. The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries.

While Robbie and Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc) added that the gifts "weren't right," Smith explained that the 44-year-old actor's antics on set served a higher purpose than shock value.

Smith explained:

Jared went full Joker. The rule, generally, is never go full Joker, but he really set the tone. He wasn't playing with it, he was dead serious. As an actor, he was going in… he really jarred [us].

Leto's gifts may have surprised the cast. They most likely disturb most people who hear about them as well. However, the actor has so far gotten positive reactions with his antics as well as his performance as The Joker, and Suicide Squad is not even out yet.

Director David Ayer explained how "the world stops" when Leto performs his scenes as The Joker. Rapper Common also said his performance in the film has been heavily influenced by Leto that he now practices method acting as well. Even award-winning actress Viola Davis said she was forced to up her game when she saw Jared's commitment to his role.

From the looks of it, Leto's Joker could be one of the movie performances we can't miss seeing this year. It might be far from an Academy Award-winning role, but I think it's worth checking out.

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.
